July 9th Note: Now that marks are out and people are curious about pass rates, I added a poll on the right hand side to see how many have passed the exam (sort of my own informal pass rate for case master visitors). Please take a second to check off whether you have passed or not. Thank you!
To those that are awaiting the May 2013 CMA Case Exam results, I heard that this time results will likely be released about 8 weeks post exam rather than after 6 weeks as some may be expecting.
It is now the 8th week so results should be in any day now - good luck and let me know how you did!!

Thanks for information. Is it official news.
ReplyDeleteNo, it is not.
DeleteLatest update regarding result?
ReplyDeleteWaiting is agony.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to get over this, the waiting game is painful. Lets hope the results are released by Friday.
ReplyDeleteIs each student going to receive an e-mail or how do we know the results are out?
I still think we'll get the results tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThe last 2 weeks of waiting were horrible- i am checking my email constantly- no news.
ReplyDeleteStill waiting, I am starting to lose hope though, maybe tomorrow or Friday?!?!?
ReplyDeleteAt least if they would send an email giving us a scheduled date. Every time my red light blinks on my phone I panic!!
ReplyDeletewhere will the results be published? cma-cpp.com? cma canada website? other?
ReplyDeleteI just called CMA and the gentleman said that they are expecting to receive the results this week, and that he personally will be sending out notification emails, letting us know how and where to find the exam marks.
ReplyDeleteDid you call CMA Ontario?
DeleteYes
DeleteLast year noone was informed (in Saskatchewan anyways), marks were posted on the CMA-Sask or CMA Canada website under "news" as a link on the home page.
ReplyDeleteIf you didnt hear about it from a friend you didnt find out for about a month later then everyone else when marks were finally mailed out!
the wait is terrible!!! They should've given us an exact date!
ReplyDeleteFunny how the deadline to pay our dues is a fixed date, yet they gives us the 6-8 weeks approximate timeline.
ReplyDeleteI heard from the CMA Manitoba office to expect them on the 15th. I hope that was just frustration due to the multiple inquiries about the marks over the past few weeks.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure that they just threw a date out...15th is almost 10 weeks
DeleteWhen is the re-write? August? I'm hoping I won't need to, but the later we get the exam results, the less time we have to prepare should we need to re-write.
ReplyDeleteRe-write is exactly 6 weeks today (August 13th)
ReplyDeleteMarks are being released July 8 or 9. Unofficial announcement from one of the CMA offices.
ReplyDeleteCheck CMA Canada website for the release Monday or Tuesday even if you do not get an email from your CMA provincial office.
Which office? I called Ontario yesterday and was told that they were going to be released by the end of this week.
DeleteThe contact person at CMA QUEBEC just told me mid-July!!!! I hope she has no idea :))
ReplyDeleteWhy doesn't anyone have an answer? Wouldn't a release date make sense?
ReplyDeleteIn BC, if you fail, you are required to take a mandatory exam prep course before re-writing... its scheduled for THIS weekend.
ReplyDeleteI guess its going to get postponed. I don't think the marks will come out until next week
DeleteI wish there was a mandatory prep course in QC because otherwise, I don't know if I could do any better than the first time. I am not even sure there is a prep course available at this time, and in English.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's not right that they don't have a clear release date.
If this weren't so serious it would be funny as hell.
ReplyDeleteThis is ridiculous. Given all the money they demand, a little quid pro quo in the form of timely evaluations is not too much to ask!
ReplyDeleteA quick email stating the status of the results will be greatly appreciated!
ReplyDeleteAccording to CMA NL marks will be out July 8th after 1pm on Cma-Canada.org
ReplyDeleteThe only information CMA BC gives out is that they are not yet available but they will let us know when they are! I wonder what the hold up is?
ReplyDeleteI received the following information from CMA Ontario:
ReplyDelete“Results should be coming out next week during the whole week. You will be sent an email.”
In regards to the mandatory CMA Case Examination Preparation Session:
“The dates are as follows July 14/2013 – Toronto July 13/2013 – Ottawa”
When I contacted CMA Ontario they said results should be posted before the weekend...
DeleteFunny how different people are giving different dates....I don't get why the secrecy?!? Why not give out the exact date....not impressed at all
DeleteI don't think it is secrecy as much as just lack of knowledge. I beleive the Provincial Offices are probably the second last to know.. us being the last to know.
DeleteI contacted CMA Canada and they referred me back to the local office, the local office said they were waiting for the results from CMA Canada, so who knows!!
DeleteAccording to CMA Alberta, results will be released next week sometime.
ReplyDeleteI feel for everyone here who is awaiting results. We received our results after 6 weeks and even that felt like forever at the time.
ReplyDeleteWord on the street from another forum is that the results will be posted today between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm. I hope we get them today. Good luck everyone!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed. I can't believe how nervous I am. I can't imagine getting my mind in gear to prep for a rewrite. Good luck all!
ReplyDeleteExactly! If it were just another exam without an impact on continuing the program, it would be much better. You can always retake an exam, but not in such a short time and with such serious conséquences. Plus, how much better can I really do??
DeleteLooks like they are deciding how many students shoud attend Mandatory session and trying to make class rooms full of students in each location.
ReplyDeleteIs there a cost for the mandatory session?
ReplyDeleteDifferent provinces have different rules re mandatory session for rewriters, cost etc.
Deleteour cma-cpp portal has been down since this morning.
ReplyDeletemaybe they're posting the marks...?
CMA-CPP portal is back up, no marks tho.
DeleteThanks VDubbs!
Deletecma-cpp.com is down. Are they posting results?...
ReplyDeletecma-cpp.com is super slow, took about 8 minutes to log-in, still no marks.
ReplyDeletenothing is posted. Marks not coming today. So sad!!
ReplyDeletewhat happens if you fail two times in case exam?
ReplyDeleteIn Ontario you get three attempts.
DeleteCMA has to be the most unprofessional organization ever..Only organized when they want money...
ReplyDeleteStrongly Agree!
DeleteHear, hear!
DeleteI want my money back!
Deletehihi - me too, and not just for the exam! :))
DeleteI think we all waited patiently for 8 weeks, but now it's too much!
ReplyDeleteIt's ridiculous. Atleast have the courtesy to send an email! GOD
DeleteSo fed up...
ReplyDeleteAs per the thread on Redflagdeals.com, looks like Monday, as CMA NL is releasing them on Monday, assuming all the provinces come out together
ReplyDeleteCalled CMA Ontario and surprise, surprise the call went to voice-mail.
DeleteI spoke to them on Wednesday and they said by the end of this week. Seeing its Friday and 1:15pm, I doubt they will be released today. Let's keep our fingers crossed for Monday
DeleteI called CMA Ontario too, went straight to voicemail.
DeleteThey might be gone for the day due to summer hours
DeleteHow about summer hours for annual dues?
DeleteI'm so disappointed with CMA.
DeleteI've always backed them up when being compared with the other accounting designations, but this is just ridiculous. How can you be so unorganized? You could have at least send us a notice that results will be a little late this year - I've waited 8 weeks already, I really don't care about waiting an extra couple days.
But really? No notification? Nothing?
All of a sudden now that membership dues are paid, the entire organization seems to be on vacation.
Maybe this is why CMA was never able to compete with the CA's. Not because of the material and quality of candidates, but the lack of organization in the committee as a whole.
Management Accountants that can't manage themselves.
Maybe I'm the one you should all be blaming as I have yet to pay my annual dues :)
DeleteMy bad...
Please, let's not attack our society's good name. I sincerely believe they are doing the best they can.
ReplyDeleteHa,ha...if this is the best I wonder what would the worst look like??????
DeleteI am with everyone else here. All other professional bodies disclose the date on which the results will be made available. CMA gives you a timeframe and then totally ignores their time frame all the while ignoring any form of communication. I think a lot of people are also frustrated with the fact that everyone is getting different answers from their provincial bodies. I guess we wait and hope its Monday
DeleteReally? At the very least for the 5k Yr1 SLP fees and the $455 membership dues, they could send out a general e-mail saying "we are experiencing technical issues and apologise for the anxiousness it is causing, we are doing our best to resolve the issue and the marks will be released on blank date”. Communicate! Communicate! Communicate!
DeleteBest? all they had to do is just send an email to everyone saying it is delayed by one week or two. I don't think anybody would have complained. One aspect of management is communication. But there is no communication at all from CMA. this is not right
ReplyDeleteI remember the CA was doing a countdown on Facebook until the results were out for UFE, there was a precise date and time for the release.
ReplyDeleteWell, lets all cross our fingers for Monday the 8th, being the big day!! Everyone enjoy the weekend.
ReplyDeleteJP
does anyone know if they bell curve?
ReplyDeleteI had asked, and they told me they don't. I have no idea what to expect. I was feeling good after the exam, but now, almost 2 months later, I'm having doubts.
ReplyDeletei know i exactly what you mean, i have been back an forth on how i did as well. it's impossible to know after all this time.
ReplyDeleteHopefully tomorrow's the day!!
ReplyDeleteHey everyone, ran into my moderator at the mall yesterday, he said CMA emailed him and that today is the day!!! 1pm cant come soon enough!!!
ReplyDeleteDo they get released at 1:00?
ReplyDeleteya by 1 is what he said.
ReplyDeletelooks like it could be any minute now, since the below site is allowing you to change your password. Getting nervous!!! dont want to rewrite in August
http://www.cma-canada.org/ExamResult..._loginform.asp
I saw that we could change our password, but then it kicked me back out. I'm with you. Totally nervous.
ReplyDeleteThat link must be down now. I get "page not available" when I click on it.
ReplyDeleteI wish CMA would just hurry up and release the marks. There are alot of nervous people out there.
ReplyDeleteResults are out in QC!!!!!!! I passed quite narrowly, but a pass is a pass! It was on our provincial CPA website.
ReplyDeleteCongrats!! Still nothing in Manitoba.
ReplyDeleteWhere? I don't see them and I am at the website. Can you please post the link?! Thanks
ReplyDeleteCongrats! Hopefully the mark will be out for other provinces later today.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I though it gets nationally posted via CMA Canada..
ReplyDeleteDid you not receive an email?
ReplyDeletehttps://www.cma-quebec.org/en/Login.aspx?item=/membrescandidats/examen602&user=ocmaq\Anonymous&site=website
you have to log in
you will need your membership number and your password. Unless you have already changed it yourself, your password consists of the first three letters of your last name (in lower case) followed by your membership number.
so login is : membership number
ReplyDeletegeneric pass (before you change it): last 3 letter of last name + membership number?
looks like they are releasing through the provincial offices. I am from Ontario, so the quebec link wont work for me. Thanks for posting though! Good luck to everyone, today is the day!
ReplyDeleteCMA Nova Scotia says 1 or 2 more weeks. They say that every province receives the marks at a different time.
ReplyDeleteReally!?? Well that sucks.
Deletewow!! no offence, but i hope ontario doesn't pull that
DeleteHi,
DeleteWhere do you hear this?
I never received an e-mail from them except for the one saying that she is on vacation.
Thanks,
I called the NS office this morning to find out if our marks were being released today. That is what they told me. I mentioned that other provinces were receiving theirs today.
DeleteCMA NS was wrong. I got my mark from the link below. Passed!!!!!
DeleteI am from NS too and I got my mark too! Good luck.
DeleteQuebec received their marks first because they pay a higher membership fee.
ReplyDeleteQuebec's SLP fees are a lot lower than Ontario. Ontario first year SLP fees = 5K. Quebec first year SLP fees are a lot lower.
ReplyDeleteI got the results. I passed.
ReplyDeleteI am in BC
I am in BC. Can you post the link, please? I haven't seen it come through.
DeleteStrange - I just called CMA Ontario and they said no one got their marks because it was going to be released by CMA Canada. All they could tell me was that it was going to be this week. . .
ReplyDeletecongrats :), pray for us Ontarians
ReplyDeleteIf the CMA marks dont come out in Ontario today, i think we should organize a group protest to get partial refunds on our SLP program, whose with me?
ReplyDeleteI agree, this is too much
Deleteworse is if they do release it, and when you call they play games like.."released this week, no other provinces have received their marks"
Deletethat's just sad, why blatantly lie like this.
Agree, I actually mentioned this to a co-worker last week.
Deletehi, can someone please shed some light on how to navigate the cmabc.com website to see the marks
ReplyDeleteThanks
Here is the link
ReplyDeletehttp://www.cma-canada.org/ExamResults_CaseExam2013/asp_exam_loginform.asp
Both my co-worker and I checked the link. It worked! We're from Ontario.
DeleteBC and QC results are out. NS has to wait 1-2 weeks. SK has stated July 15. Ontario states that "no province has received their marks yet". Newfoundland received an email last Friday saying sometime today, usually after 1 PM. Anyone from Alberta, Manitoba, and the other Maritime provinces care to comment on what your province has said?
ReplyDeleteAlberta said sometime "early next week" hopefully today.
DeleteJust received Ontario mark here: http://www.cma-canada.org/ExamResults_CaseExam2013/asp_exam_loginform.asp
ReplyDeleteONtario marks are out! I logged in the above link! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm from NS. Local office is mistaken. My mark is out. Pass - woohoo!
DeleteThe link below worked for Alberta!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.cma-canada.org/ExamResults_CaseExam2013/asp_exam_loginform.asp
I'm in Manitoba. Results are posted at this link. http://www.cma-canada.org/ExamResults_CaseExam2013/asp_exam_loginform.asp
ReplyDeleteShould work for all provinces. Let us know Nova Scotia.
Totally pumped! I got 82%!
nice, congrats!
DeleteI'm in ontario. I passed. Check link http://www.cma-canada.org/ExamResults_CaseExam2013/asp_exam_loginform.asp
ReplyDeleteGonna get drunk tonight!!!! :))
I am from Newfoundland and got my passing grade through the above link!
ReplyDeleteOntario Marks are out! Passed! thought I failed for sure....Congratulations everyone who passed, Gl with the repeat for all who are rewriting in August
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say that it was great having this site to simply vent about the stress, knowing others understand what I was going through.
ReplyDeleteSo far, everyone on here has passed, so that's great news! Congratulations to all future CMAs!
Just want to let the Nova Scotia CMA students know that our marks are out too!
ReplyDeleteGood luck! And thank everyone here for your help!!We made it through this process!!
Passed! Although I could not find the link on the CMA Canada site, found it through one of the message boards. Thought I did well after I wrote the exam, but the more time that passed the doubt started to creep in. On to year 2. Congrats to everyone that passed and goodluck to those that have to rewrite!
ReplyDeletecongrats to everyone! now you can truly enjoy your summer :)
ReplyDeleteLet the summer begin! First round is on me.
ReplyDeleteSaskatchewan grades went up today
ReplyDeleteI passed. Thanks for the information Case Master. Congratulations everyone who passed!
ReplyDeleteGreat site and though we were all very nevous and venting our frustrations, it was great to have somebody to share that with. Great forum and good luck folks. Saskatchwean results are out and i look forward to sharing our experiences in the last year!!!
ReplyDeleteAgreed, great site. Thanx to everyone for the support over the last week. Waiting was agonizing but so worth it! Good luck if you have to rewrite in August; and good luck once everyone is in SLP year 2. We're almost at the finish line!
ReplyDeleteI think most people passed - I would be curious about the pass rate per province. Are these going to be published?
ReplyDeleteCheck out the new poll on the top right hand side of the blog. I added an informal pass rate poll for case master visitors.
ReplyDeleteI would venture to say the type of person reading the blog is someone who passed so not sure about the polls accuracy. It does seem like an extremely high pass rate but no point in guessing if CMA does not release data on it. After the entrance exam a lot of people were saying that the passing grade should be raised to 70% to have a higher quality CMA candidates.
ReplyDeleteare you crazy make the passing rate to 99.99%
ReplyDeletefailed , any suggestion for rewrite
ReplyDeleteI found that going through the successful case exam solutions from prior years really helped me to develop a quick and efficient format for displaying information in the appendices. This is where most of my time usually got used. If you can come up with a quick format for displaying ratios,NPV and an action plan that will help free up some time. Also it was helpful for me to type the headings in my paper as soon as the exam starts, that way you don't miss a section. When you're reading the additional information, mark the pros and cons and preferences and immediately put them in your paper, this way you don't have to re-read the alternative and time the info again.
DeleteFinally memorize as much as you can around your ratios and their explanation , swot, stakeholders, and case facts.
Best of luck in Aug!
Dorothy's prep course in Toronto is great - she takes you thru the best way to get the most mark in the least amount of time.
DeleteFocus on getting your links. I keep a little 'tick-tally' and every time I have a link I add a tick, this just helps me ensure I'm meeting the link requirements. It's so easy to lose track of them. Definitely go in with a template introduction/conclusion in mind. Saves time. Type your format headings as soon as you get there and make sure you have something under every heading.
ReplyDeleteAnother time saving trick is to type the formula exactly as your would in your calculation as your audit trail. Then just copy and past the formula in the cell where you actually want the calculation. Amazing how much time that can save.
Do your ratio analysis ahead of time. Make sure you can give a solid explanation of them. I even memorized my explanation just to ensure I'd have it down pat.
I hope this made sense and helps!
Just touch all the sections(Don't go too deep in any section as you will be out of time and miss other sections). Make sure you have good Situational Analysis, implementation Plan and integration points
ReplyDeleteThey will never raise the bar to 70%. I think even the CA has it to only 65%.
ReplyDeleteHi, I failed as well...terrible feeling. I am not sure where to star and how to get ready for the next one.
ReplyDeleteAny ideas will be appreciated
Thanks
I was (luckily!) very successful on the case exam...My strategy for studying was to redo all the previous year's cases multiple times to get a rhythm down and to improve my quants. I started by entering the headings based on the better successful examples given (if you look at the examples, at least in earlier years, there's a very good successful attempt, an average successful attempt, and an unsuccessful attempt).
ReplyDeleteOnce I had the headings in, I would read the case and fill in any information I came across directly while also highlighting it. This saved me tons of time on SWOT, alternatives, and pros and cons. While I didn't pay much attention to links, I filled in any I noticed as I was going, then went back a few times while writing to fill in any that came to mind.
As other people have mentioned, do your ratios ahead of time and understand what they mean for the company. Also, figure out a good audit trail technique that won't take up tons of time. ]
Good luck!
Hi,
ReplyDeleteMy biggest problem is the limited functions in secure exam spreadsheet. I believe I consumed a lot of time working on the quants to make sense by putting dollar signs besides each number if required. Anybody knows if there is anyway I can use a spreadsheet from the secure exam site to practice on a daily basis? I don't feel confident about the copy and paste function either.
Don't waste time on formatting of numbers. As long as you have the decimal places you want you're all good. They're not looking for a perfectly presentable document; they're looking at your ability to analyze and to come up with a convincing proposal based on that analysys (ie. integration, feasibility).
DeleteIt is really easy to get lost in the quants, I totally understand. I got 68% by typing something in each section as I read the case - you don't have time to read and re-read and write later. First thing you do - put the titles down and as you read, you fill in the blanks. Don't leave anything blank. For quants, I only did 2 options, out of 4. I know I got a weak score, but it worked. Secure exam sucks, the excel part is horrible but we have no choice. Do not worry about formatting under any circumstance!! Just put some numbers down to show them your train of thought. That's all that is needed.
DeleteI truly appreciate your advise. I didn't get to work on Dier Trail alternative at all. I thought that was my biggest mistake. But it seems what ever I do, must make sense to base my recommendations on. This really helped.
DeleteThanks again!
You were able to practice with all your assignments and practice cases using secure exam before. If your moderator did not bring this to your attention or coach you to be familiar with the tool in advance....then....
ReplyDeleteYes you can use Securexam to practice. Just select the "practice case exam" in the list of exams and use that. For that one it will save in word & excel format after you exit. Also you will need to "get licenses" the next time you use secure exam again, because for some reason once you use practice case exam, it's no longer in the list anymore. So each time you want to use it, you need to update the licenses.
ReplyDeleteYes, I have started doing this. I hope I don't get in trouble by seeking licenses too many times:) Thank you for the suggestion.
DeleteI was only able to calculate two out of four quants and was not successful. I thought it was more important to do a financial forecast and show my recommendation was financially feasible with financing, met the target and improved the profit margin. I touched on every other aspect of a consulting report -Comments from the marker were not helpful, as some comments were incorrect in several areas!- I am so confused on where to go from here - What can be left out in order to get a pass??
ReplyDeletewhy not contest if you feel you are right?
DeleteHi there,
ReplyDeleteWho wrote the August 2013 case exam and how did they feel about it?
For those who did not pass the May 2013 case exam, what were some of the marker's comments? I am not sure how I did on this exam and the six week waiting period is driving me crazy.
Thank you.
Check out the casemaster facebook page, there is a post about the august exam.
DeleteTomorrow will be the 6 week mark, but I've been told by our association the the marks for the August rewrite are not expected untill the 30th. Has anyone else heard anything on when the marks for the August exam might be released?
ReplyDeleteNo I have not heard anything either and the wating is driving me crazy too.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone when is the re-write for individuals who failed the August 2013 case exam? I am hearing different scenarios. Some are saying its between the M4A4 and the IS 4, others are saying we would have to wait till May 2014?
May 2014. You'll be contacted by CMA early 2014 about the rewrite. It's in the fine print of the email CMA sent with the announcement that marks were out. You're access to the CPP site will also be cut off.
DeleteGot my mark today...failed with a worse mark. I am not happy...paying extra and getting nothing. Why couldn't they give us our marks before this year started? The whole SLP year 1 was a waste of time...Why wait until we are months into the program to state what is expected....I give up. It's too late to start year 1 over now.
ReplyDeleteI failed as well, and I share your frustration, the next 7 months are going to be long and cold until the May 7 re-write. Here is a little unsolicited advice:
Delete1. Be angry - $5,000 spent. That’s a lot of money and time to have spent with nothing to show for.
2. Now What? - I spent the last week questioning whether I have what it takes to pass the case exam, should I quit and find another line of work.
3. What happened - I asked myself, if my class mates who are no more capable then I can pass what’s my problem? That question is unique to each individual; my issue was an accounting supervisor contract job which bled into study time (year end audit, extreme staff issues and a boss who was not supportive in granting me time off for studying). As well, not to bash the moderators, but we were not taught how to tie the quantitative to the qualitative for the case exam. What I mean is that the elements of the quants were not adequately linked to the narrative in the PROS/CONS, the recommendations and the financial forecast. Key elements of the case exam.
4. What to do – Don’t give up! The bad news is there is 7 months to the May 2014 exam; the good news is that there is 7 months to the May 2014 exam. Plenty of time to study and get comfortable with the exam.
a) Review the comments provided by the CMA, critical to understand what you did wrong.
b) Re-read implementation plan, Situational Analysis Tool, Pro forma Financial Statements, Steps for Approaching Business and Corporate Strategy
c) If you have access to the CMA AP site, review Segment 2, module 4: Capital budgeting, Relevant Costing and Variances
d) Review prior years exam 2011 and on (IFRS ASPE) read the alternatives, drill down how the quants were calculated and review how they were incorporated into the PROS/CONS, recommendations and the financial forecast
5. Success or Failure – If you follow these suggestions and work hard, there is no reason why you won’t be successful next July.
I'm surprised to hear your moderators did not teach you how to tie the quantitative to the qualitative. I'm in Manitoba, and our moderators drilled that into us at every interactive session. Focus on getting links! I kept a tally to ensure I was getting enough links. For every link, I'd mark a tick. It's so easy to lose track while writing the exam. Also, ensure no bias! Equal pros to cons when doing your quantitative. The actual numbers you derive almost seem secondary. They want to see your thought process.
Deleteso if a financial forecast is not done its a fail?
ReplyDelete
