About Me

Hello CMA Case Exam writers!

I am a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) that went through the SLP program several years ago. Having gone through the program myself and by talking with various other CMAs and CMA students I have compiled various strategic tips that helped me and others pass the CMA SLP program successfully. I will be posting and sharing my tips and suggestions as well as answering your questions on how to approach writing the CMA Case Exam and hope that it will help you pass the program.

While completing the program myself it always amazed me that students had nowhere to go to online where they could ask questions about case writing strategy and bounce ideas off of each other or better yet, off of someone who has been there and knows the ins and outs of how to write the exam successfully. This blog is not for discussing the details of individual cases, rather it is about case writing strategy geared towards helping students pass the CMA Case Exam.

Please note that my posts and my comments on this blog are simply based on my own views and experiences.

  1. I think what you are doing is pretty awesome. For awhile I was just relying on old forums on redflagdeals website for tips on case writing. Your tips are more concrete and useful than the tips I get at the Cma interactive sessions.

  2. Thank you! That is exactly why I decided to start this blog. When I was going through the program myself I found that there is a lack of resources as well as a lack of online forums/communities where students can interact and bounce ideas off of each other. I started this blog very recently and with a new baby it has been a bit of a challenge adding more recent posts, but I am working on it. Glad to know it is of value.

  5. Thanks Case Master for starting this blog. Really appreciate it. I had been web surfing for blogs to find tips on surviving the whole SLP but wasn't very successful. There seem to be more blogs written by medical students to help other medical students. You are inspiring me to start recording my SLP experience so that I can pass it on to future candidates.

    1. That is great! I think as a student it really helps when you get to read about how others went through the process.
Btw, if you are interested in writing guest posts for this blog, about your experience to date, and as you go along the SLP, let me know.

  6. Hi CaseMaster,

You are an angel! I agree with all the above posts. My husband went through the CA program and he said that the candidates in his modules were always posting items on the discussion boards. there was more interaction between candidates and he said this helped foster a better understanding of the concepts. He was so surprised that that the CMA program did follow the same format.

I feel that it is nice to bounce ideas off each other and learn from others mistakes or tricks to writing the exam. Reading through these posts has helped me greatly! If i would have known then what I know now, I could have improved my previous cases in Module 2 and probably been further ahead going into Mod 3 and the exam.

I'm sorry I didn't find this blog sooner before the exam next week!! Better late than never I suppose!

Keep those tips and tricks coming. Appreciate all your hard work.
    :)

  13. Hi Case Master!

This is a wonderful blog and resource. I'm wondering if its possible for you to send me the case exam templates that you have constructed or collected over the last few years in excel? My email address is: timothy.troy@live.ca. I'd be very interested in playing with them a little.

    Thanks for your help!

    Timothy

  14. Hi Timothy,

I did not keep excel templates relating to past cases unfortunately, i did keep the NPV template as a whole, which is available on this site, I hope this helps. Let me know if you need help with something specific...

  15. Can you provide a little more information about the Board Report? What is the timeline? When was it released? When was it due? When did you start working on it? Same questions for the presentation portion?
